Here is Mantra #2 from The Home You Love:
This is a strong reminder to slow down. Creating your home is not a race to the finish line. It's not a rushed half-hour TV show that ends with a final ceremonial reveal.
Creating The Home You Love is a process. A beautiful journey that may span many hours, weeks, months and even years. It is about layering the pieces of your soul into a structure that houses your physical being, and making it a space that nurtures your spiritual being. If we rush this process, this journey, we often make design decisions that don't connect with the core of who we are.
It's important to allow ourselves the time and space it takes to create The Home You Love. To be gentle with ourselves when it takes longer than we thought to select a sofa fabric or paint the living room walls. To understand that each of these decisions matters, and by being thoughtful about them, we are creating spaces that mean something to ourselves and to others.
Our sense of time can be tricky though. It's easy to get caught up in the mindset that we don't have enough time to dedicate to our homes. That we are simply too busy. If only we had more time, our homes would be so much more. But this mindset is self-created. Because we choose what's important to us, and we choose how to spend each of the 24 hours in our days. With this time, we can choose to make our homes important. We can choose to love and care for our spaces. Or, we can choose not to.
When you find yourself struggling with the feeling that there is not enough time, or that creating your home is taking too long, remember - The Home You Love takes time. And that's ok. Enjoy the creative journey.
